Street Church blog - a flavour of our each activities each week

Sunday 26th February 2017

A large contingent of the Street Church family welcomed Jennie and her husbandPete to celebrate Jennie's 50th birthday with us. Jennie's been very important to St. Church and it's other outreach work, she hasn't felt on top form recently so we all wish her a speedy recovery and return to us all. Please keep her in your prayers. We miss you Jennie!

It's interesting to note that the 50th year is the year of Jubilee bringing freedom from oppression. Well worth studying in relation to the work of Street Church.

Some workers commented on the friendliness and helpfulness of those visiting these days with less edginess than in previous times and more cohesion. At least one Bible was distributed and the clothes cupboard appeared to be doing good business. Toiletries are always in demand and today we also gave out bottled water which went very quickly.

The workers in the kitchen were kept extremely busy and produced some delicious looking cakes fit for any special celebration. Grateful thanks must go to the caterers from Silverstone. Many people work quietly in the background, but essential to the smooth running of the sessions; hopefully you know who you are, we couldn't manage without you.

This week there was a mini circle time of one person requesting prayer, but we are anticipating that this will grow again in the next few weeks.

Please pray for the Trustees and Steering Group of Street Church as they meet this week. They carry a great responsibility for ensuring that things run smoothly, so that more vulnerable people can be helped.

Once again, thank you for all that you do to enable Street Church to meet needs. We especially value your prayers. Next week the Grand Union Benefice will be catering.

The atmosphere at Street Church never ceases to touch me. The good humoured banter between friends and volunteers and also those of different nationalities is heart warming. It is such a treat to have your feet washed in a nice foot spa when in general you are afraid to remove your shoes/boots in case they are taken...sometimes as a joke by passers by. Nice clean socks are an added bonus! A good haircut and even a beard trim are also guaranteed to lift spirits.

Pampering days are days when our friends let their guard down and enjoy the gentle touch of people wanting to make them feel better. Bruises and black eyes, the tell tale signs of addictions become less noticeable when folk feel better about themselves. Sometimes what we think of as small things are huge to those whose esteem is rock bottom.

Amid the general noise and banter associated with 70 plus folks together in a room there are also serious conversations and the blessing of clothes and sleeping bags etc. We always need boots and shoes.....

I can always see Jesus moving between the tables, laughing with those who laugh and weeping with those who weep and that is why my heart will always be with Street Church. It is such a privilege to put a smile on someones face.

Thank you to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for their continued provision re hosting Street Church and this week they did a great job of catering too. Next week Silverstone will be catering for us.

Following a quiet start things became animated and lively, but the vibe was good with a hum of friendly conversation filling the room from the many guests gathered today.

The Salvation Army provided the food and all ate their fill and were able to take pack up meals home too.

Warm gloves, scarves, hats etc.were in demand to fend off the wet and icy weather and even umbrellas were a welcome addition. Where needed, sleeping bags, toiletries and Christian books were distributed too.

Nancy spoke about the importance and power of The Holy Spirit and those gathered listened intently, they were obviously interested to hear what she had to say. Please pray it will have a lasting impact on their lives.

Dick and Sue brought music and a relaxed sunny atmosphere to the room. Dick also spoke of the love of the Saviour which was echoed in the songs which they sang.

Altogether, a peaceful, happy time where there was opportunity for some important conversations and prayer where requested. God was certainly with us, we pray that his presence will go with us throughout the week.

Next week Mount Pleasant will be catering and there will be another popular pampering session!

Thank you for all that you do to help in whatever way.

Sunday 5th February 2017

A large number of guests came to enjoy a feast, prepared by The Cathedral. There were take-outs too!

Although there were few volunteers, many of whom are unwell at the moment, the Street Church Family members joined in to help things tick over happily. Clothing, toiletries, New Testaments in English and Polish were taken away with a request for a Russian copy left with us. The atmosphere was calm with a buzz of conversation and background music adding to a relaxed atmosphere.

Paul gave a testimony of the difference that knowing Jesus as his Saviour has made in his life. The guests obviously appreciated what he had to say because he speaks from an understanding of some of the problems that they now face on a daily basis.

Your continued prayerful support that lives will be changed and the Lord glorified through the work that goes on at Street Church is much appreciated.

We are very grateful too, for the constant support of Mount Pleasant on a weekly basis. Next week the Salvation Army will be catering.
